RPG character names  
Yeah.

So, this was inspired by a comment made by [info]colm_l on an earlier post. His comment mostly pertained to demonic sexual assault with a spiked hairbrush, but a bit of it got me thinking.

What are all your RPG character names?

I'ld just find it interesting to know the various names you've answered to in games over the years. If you really want, you can put a brief descriptive sentence after the name; that's what I'm going to do. Emphasis on the brief, please.

Here are mine. I'm just listing the characters I particularly liked:

Orbaror - Ithorian, Nature Priest, occasional child murderer.
Riven the Bastard of Gond - angry, angry little gnome with a gun.
Charles "Chilla Charlie" D'Cannith - ex-Noble, petty criminal, drug peddler.
Richie Hawtin - Blindingly handsome, but extremely dim, Sorceror.

Honorable mention:
"Not in the" Face - socially mal-adjusted Shark Man. 

I only include Face because I like his name. His species names' were unpronouncable by humans, so their tradition was to name themselves after things they heard in human lands. Face's name came from the first human sentence he heard from his first victi... encounter.

Bors - a vicious thug who frequently accused the Elf and Dwarf in the party of being "racist" to each other. One of the inspirations for Jack Sunshine.
Ceinwyn - Welsh princess turned Scottish queen
Thomas J Foxe - lawyer, leader, human-rights-respecting sucker
Jack "Sunshine" Murphy - Possibly my finest character - confident, witty, stylish, the perfect sadist.
(Damn, I've forgotten her name...) - A traditional Irish mammy
Shiba Tsuikune - Or at least I thought I was, but it turned out I wasn't. Stupid Phoenix Clan.

Mr. Bostok - ex-dockworker and B&E artist, with a nice line in filleting halflings.
Emmet Ringwald - the man with a mind like a broken Rubik's cube. May have unintentionally shat upon the metaplot for years to come.
Mark Vaszquez - Toreador weaponsmith. Most dramatic death never seen in the OWoD game.

Robbard Bitter, twisted and possibly one of the best intentioned men in his universe. Universally hated.

Hawrrrk hindrance(minor):Pacifism, hindrance(minor):thinks the word pacifist has it's roots in to "pacify"

Goran Dokic - Tremere infiltrator, later Council of 7 member and member of the Inner Council. Drove the Bus of Lies! [Vampire]
Melmoth - Very highly strung human mage, spends a lot of time in the wrong plane trying to avoid any nasty experiences in bed. [DnD]
Bayushi Tangen - Former hacker that led a fanatical fascist group that exploded nuclear weapons at the heart of an interplanetary nation's main food production areas. Committed Seppukku, and later helped in another revolution to keep things exactly the same (with new people in charge)[The Garden of Stars]
And of course, who could forget...
Technical Sergeant Mikhail Sergeyovich Chevchenko, 114th Spec.Cav - had "engineer powers", managed to survive having Dante as his "superior" and Wulff as his closest friend. [GURPS:WW2]

It has struck me that despite 19 years of gaming, I haven't actually played that much...so some of these are favourite npcs or larp characters.

Moto Ben Lynden - Unicorn noble and self created affront to all things Rokugani. [Lo5R]

Parsifal - Romano-British warleader and early christian, later driven mad by betrayal of his wife and best friend and the murder of his son. [once and future king larp]

Alex - 14 year old schitzophrenic military genius and occasional rapist. [Nick Huggins Homebrew]

Keledorn D'Argent- My current D&D alias, a devout cleric of Heironeous and religious womaniser.

Samantha Titmuss- The name is thanks to Brohnos. Werewolf sword mistress from Shackled City.

Sergei Budenny- Fat Soviet sniper. In Ubers house, stealing his wife.

Tashael el'Kaleal- Unlikely Jedi Guardian.

Uziel Agrach Dyrr- Drow Inquisitor of the Church of Lloth.

Silent Hawk- Kai Lord apprentice.

Laesel de la Shael- Fey'Ri assassin.

Thraxx (traditional spelling) - Fanatical devotee of the warrior god Mauvs (AD&D 2nd Ed. Planescape - Bill Healy)

Wolfram Mayer - Assamite spy sent to London to help curb the Crusader mentality there. (Vampire: Dark Ages - Oli)

Philip of Madrid - Pint-sized Lasombra monster who went to London to piss off the Ventrue, take control of the Archbishop of Canterbury, and kill people in new and interesting ways. (Vampire: Dark Ages - Oli)

Marcus Cole - Technocratic Man in Grey, tasked with observing and studying the vampiric population of 1920's Chicago. (Vampire: The Masquerade/Mage: The Ascension - Ger)

Donald Campbell - Scottish werewolf visiting Ireland, with an unusually infectious accent. (Werewolf: Dark Ages - Gaelcon scenario)

Kyle - Displayed some unusual talents which got him experimented on for years, before being released to join a team helping keep the world safe from alien invaders. (Conspiracy X - JC)

Michael Griffon - Flew helicopters in 'Nam, worked his way up the ranks of the Air Force. Retired to take control of a cell of secret agents fighting against the evil "Black Book". (Conspiracy X - JC)

Savon - Streetwise sorcerer who got involved in stuff waaay over his head. Remembers the day when he received four (entirely legitimate) threats that he would be eaten within the space of an hour fondly. (D&D 3rd Ed. Planescape - Bill Healy)

I've also had a lot of fun with NPC's in the games I've GM'd, like the supremely devious "Sphinx" from a WoD crossover game, the cheerfully mercenary Yoritomo Shidosha from L5R, and the wonderful Kastor Lieberung, who did nothing but lie dead on the side of the road, and yet caused so, so much trouble.

Beyond about 8 years ago, characters blend into each other and the names are gone. What I remember off the top of my head, I'd say

Sgt. Hector X Delgado - SG4's resident "Cuban" anarchic technician, Eddie Guerrero in a SGC uniform.
Samaritan - Mastigos Thearch ; A cruel and manipulative selfless humanitarian
Rif Saqir Al-Assyn - Dashing arabian swordmaster prince, albeit not so bright.
Dr. Necron Mortis - immortal necromancer trapped in a full body leather armour with the demon that prevents him aging.
Dr. Montague "Monty" (occassionally "Minty") Nash - Malkavian Supernaturalist and enemy of THE BUTTERFLY.

Sir Thormond II of Thormond's Keep. A dwarf who preached forgivness and understanding, and channelled his "smite evil" through a daemon blade called AXE to teach it the error of its ways.

Lt. Col John McKenzie, USAF, JAG A JAG offficer who got brought into the Star Gate program to get [Bad username: Mr.Target]'s character aquitted of any of a number of very serious charges. I managed to do it, mostly by proving it was the fault of the rest of the team.

Dr. Michael Maloney, MRCSI, deceased A man who got himself in far deeper than he really should have in the World of Darkness, this Humanity 8 vampire was in a world of trouble in the Dublin Court...

Ensign William George MacIntyre An Irishman in a regiment with several senior officers who were wounded in 1798... This is going to be fun... Also gets mentioned because it means me playing an orangeman.

I know I'm forgetting some...

Varni: Wild mage with a terror of undead. I didn't come up with this name, and never really liked it.

Raiko: Witch (1st ed D&D style); best thing about her was the name.

Yanka: Excessively quiet fighter who managed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and got turned into a vampire.

Fionn McCool: Dread Pirate Roberts clone, the only attempt I ever made at playing a guy.

Cyniska Akilina: Paladin of Kord with a mean competetive streak.

Rynn: Femme fatale changeling warlock attempting to blackmail a freelance detective...that didn't work out well.

Leena de la Fontaine: Operative for various unsavoury characters, first chance I ever got to play evil without having to rationalize it into neutrality.

Anya Thrul: Renegade Red Wizard who feels that world domination is really a very narrow-minded goal. Second chance to be openly evil.

I must admit, I've played far too few games for my liking, so I'm a little light on character selection. In addition, most of those characters have been throwaway piles of stats, made in an attempt to simply play the game, rather than for a unique roleplaying experience. Plus, most of them were with Robbie as a DM, so they never amounted to much.

There is one blip on the map though. Ser Shawn Pineholme, a hedge kinght from Oisin's Game of Thrones game. A hopeless romantic looking to be a "proper" Knight from the stories. Journies with his "princess", his squire Isek, actually a lord's daughter named Yasiminia Karharbor.

There was also my Vampire character, Gerard Hegarty, the bloodsucking banker. However, it took me ages to get him into a sort of stride, and Limerick loomed just before it all came together.

Most of the npcs I'm DMed have been too short-lived to really count as a favorite, and I'm usually too distracted running the damn game to give them proper characterisation. Scythem Artiok, the Psycho Cleric with the Wardrobe problem, was fun to play, but never quite reached the Saturday Morning Megalomaniac levels of Evil I was aiming for.

If there are two recurring themes in my characters, they are "the Heroes Journey" and "the Exemplar". I love both having a character with a strong arc from obscurity to a higher position/calling and the ability to back up what he says, I loath the empty bluff in most of my characters. At the right place, at the right time and when the story demands it I want my guy to be able to do what it says on his tin.

Enough rambling.

1) Kar Fai: (The Yodeling Khazmojan Lunatic Fringe) Kar Fai, one of my fav characters a humble good hearted monk, last living practicioner of the Shadowfist on the trail of the man who killed his master (though sadly he was more forming the trail) A character who has had 5 or more different iterations as I've struggled to get him right mechanically, the mans personaility never presented a problem.

2) Cal MacReady "I can't believe its not Mal Reynolds" (GURPS Firefly) An honest tramp freighter captain trying to keep a dishonest crew of misfits in line, while skimming 99% of the profits off the top.

3) Thorgrimm (WHFRP) The morose, bloody minded Trollslayer mainly employed when all else failed to shift a problem...or there looked like ther was any chance of a fight, many of the rest of the party were social misfits by accident, Thorgrimm got there on purpose :)

4) Sump (Age of Worms)A socially majadjusted Mul miner, Sump has been slowly integrated into society as his combat prowess as a Duskblade and keen mind have proved a boon to the Diamond Lake Irregulars, even as his bizarre attitudes and surly temperment have put them off. So named as he worked in Pump shaft #3.

5) Karth Faighto (Star Wars) Half Massasai/Halk Kobrunite Jedi Weaponmaster and Tactician. At times the frustrated babysitter to a troupe of characters who run between being fiendishly competent black op troopers or a crystal meth addled street tough. He has also played the roles of moderator, strategic genius, conscience and last ditch weapon of choice in a rough and tumble galaxy spanning crusade.

6) Crom Hark (Dragonlance) Ah poor Cromwell Alphonse Caponi Harkkonnen, that game was hard on you, between spontaneously generating the contempt of every NPC he ever met and having Graham as a mother its a winder he stayed Chaotic Good as long as he did. Also never did get to bag himself a dragon...despite having every anti dragon skill availible.

7) Rants at the Moon (Werewolf)
Frustrated writer and scheming Storm Lord Cathilith trainer of would be heroes Rants has proved himself among the most cunning and glory obsessed Uratha in the city of Dublin. His pack, Burning Truth value his council, encouragement and training even if he himself is not the most powerful warrior in the pack.

Blort Grubber: the third son of an extremely wealthy family, Blort was forced into the priesthood. His dream was to be a layabout playboy and he's now very bitter. Thinks nobles are better than other people, and has vowed that his adopted son, "the creepy kid", will grow up to be whatever he wants, especially if it's a wealthy playboy.

Valara Caveel: a mercenary who thinks that people who follow causes are stupid. A twist of fate showed her life on the bright side of the road.

Jaunty McPirate: wannabe pirate, Jaunty is enthuasiatic and hit in the head too many times as a child. She's a wanted criminal in her home of Kira. Her crimes are two: Not returning a rental boat within the alloted two hour period and using that boat to board a second boat and make some children cry. Jaunty is now Queen of Ogrepog and married to an NPC.

Delve Granth: Delve never got over her background tragedy, because it never came up during gameplay. She thought Robard was cool, but liked the Dervish guy too. He had a name, I'll remember it later.

Ingrid: The first character I remember making, Ingrid was a dwarf with a sense of belief and the desire to help people. Her belief was that she was always right and that no matter what people said, they needed to accept her help. She hit them with her stick until they agreed. All of her spells related somehow to her crusade to help others and make the world a better place. Ingrid memorably tried to gain the aid of the dwarven God of Rock, by going into a cave, asking nicely once and then shouting "I know where you live!".

Warhammer character: honestly, if a gm gives you a character with the career progression Acolyte, cleric, torturer, witch hunter, and you're investigating chaos in a small town, would he not expect you to torture peasants until you found the chaos?

Warhammer character: An alchemist, she was so much fun to play, mostly because of the rest of the party. Distracted by the charlatan class, she was even further behind the other PCs, but she had a big gun (blunderbuss) and hit behind the tank (dwarf), if only the thief could sneak we may have been more successful. Had a child in game, for some reason. Also, we took over a small town and turned it into a hotbed of noble idleness. Invented the cocktail and birth control.

In my defense, dealing with Delve's plot would have required either some kind of heartbreaking confession scene, or a trip to the Elven lands specifically to find the murderers and bring them to justice. The way things went, neither of those things were likely.

Not everything on the character sheet needs to be dealt with. What happens during gameplay is often more important.
